FACTS Meetings
Who are these
meetings for?
Parents of children with food allergies
What do we do at
these meetings?
» Parents have
the opportunity to share their frustrations, fears, and
accomplishments in a supportive environment. They can meet other
families dealing with the same food allergies and trade successful
strategies.
» Important Food Allergy Information is shared. This can include
updates on food products' ingredients, food recalls or research,
tips for managing day to day
life with food allergies, and ideas for educating family members,
schools, and restaurants about your child's food allergy needs.
» Guest speakers give information relevant to food allergy families.
Some speakers have been: Allergists specializing in
food allergies, other food allergy support group leaders, school
health administrators, a senior sanitarian in the Monroe County food
service program, the director of the Monroe County Health
Department, parents of a now 25 year old who had food allergies as a
child, and the director of Legislative and Regulatory Research
for the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN).
» Share information related to the needs of food allergic
individuals, articles about food allergies, and samples of
cookbooks, children’s books, resources available from FAAN, and
books about food allergies.

When are FACTS
meetings held?
10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on the 3rd Saturday
of every other month

Where are FACTS
meetings held?
Fairport United Methodist Church
31 West Church Street
Fairport, New York
(2
blocks west of Route 250 on Route 31F)
» FACTS has no
affiliation with the church other than using it for meeting space.
Is there a fee for
attending a FACTS meeting?
No, meetings and membership in the
group are free, but donations are gladly accepted. The donations
help to cover operating expenses.
Can I bring my children to a FACTS meeting?
Yes, child care is available upon request.
The church’s nursery is “allergy sensitive” and safe for food
allergic children. The teenagers who care for the children have
been educated about food allergies. The parents who use this
service need to RSVP to Joy Leinenbach (ejleinenbach@gmail.com)
or (joy@factsplace.com)
with the number of children so that the appropriate number of
sitters will be there. The parents are also responsible for paying
the sitters.
FACTS Social Nights
Who comes to the FACTS Social
Nights?
Members of FACTS and their spouses
What is the purpose of the FACTS Social Night?
Since most food allergic families do not go out to dinner, this
night out gives members the opportunity to have dinner in a
Rochester area restaurant.
When are the FACTS Social Nights? These fun evenings take place at
6:30 pm on the 3rd Thursday of the month that alternates with the
FACTS meetings: February April, June, August, October, December.
Where are the FACTS Social Nights held?
To help educate the restaurant community about food
allergies, we alternate different restaurants in the
Rochester area. Restaurants that we have visited in the past are Houilhans, Jack Astor’s, Bazil’s, and Jeremiah’s Tavern.
How do I find out which restaurant to go to?
We determine the restaurant at the meeting held the month before the
social night. The restaurant will also be listed in the
Calendar of Events on the web site (Click
Here for Dates and Locations).
Can I just show up at the restaurant?
We ask for members to RSVP so that we can give the restaurant an
accurate head count. |
