NEW YORK STATE LEGISLATION

Dear Friend,

We have an historic opportunity to enact the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Management Act (FAAMA) this year in New York State.   WE NEED YOUR HELP.

FAAMA (Senate bill S298 and Assembly bill A4051), if enacted, will amend the public health law by requiring the New York State Commissioner of Health to develop model state guidelines to manage the risk of food allergy and anaphylaxis in public schools (and private schools that receive state funding).  FAAMA will require schools to have food allergy policies, but will provide flexibility for schools to create policies consistent with their own unique school environment and culture.  Visit http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?bn=A04051&sh=t to see a full text version of FAAMA.

Please take the time over the next couple of weeks to either WRITE and/or CALL both your New York State Assemblymember and Senator.  If you are interested in visiting personally with your legislator, please contact the Food Allergy Initiative at advocacy@faiusa.org or 212/207-1974 to help coordinate your meeting.  If you need assistance in locating your Senator and Assemblymember, visit http://nymap.elections.state.ny.us/nysboe/ and use the attached "contacting your legislator" document to assist you.  The attached document also provides information on which legislators serve on the Health Committees and which are co-sponsoring the legislation, both helpful details to know before contacting a legislator.
